WISH LIST |
3.8-acre Quivett Marsh Vista Project in Brewster
The Brewster Conservation Trust is leading the effort to raise
$224,000 to preserve 3.8 acres (comprised of two separate parcels)
nestled between historic Route 6A and the sweeping salt marsh of
Quivett Creek in West Brewster. The "Quivett Marsh Vista"
aims to preserve the view from Rt. 6A shown above in photos from
1953 (lower photo) before the Skyline Motel was built on the site
and from 2008 (upper photo) after the abandoned motel was removed.
The motel has been removed by the current owner, but unless the
land is preserved, two houses will go up and block the view.
- The 3.8 acres is connected to 100 acres of town-owned marsh
in Quivett Creek and 70 acres of beach and upland at the Crowes
Pasture Conservation Area in Dennis.
- The properties afford good opportunities for a public turnout
on Route 6A to admire the marsh view with a picnic table set back
from the roadway.
- The properties provide more than 800 feet along the edge of
Quivett Creek marsh, offering water quality protection to this
water body, estuary, and herring run.
- The properties provide a scenic greenbelt along more than 600
feet of frontage on the historic Old Kings Highway near the western
gateway into Brewster.
1.54-acre Pinto Project on Drummer Cove in Wellfleet
The Wellfleet Conservation Trust needs to raise $110,000 to enable
the town to purchase and preserve 1.54 acres on Drummer Cove in
South Wellfleet. This land preservation project will help to protect
the water quality of Drummer Cove and connect a walking trail from
the Drummer Cove shoreline to upland overlooking the cove. The Drummer
Cove Trail will allow a mile-long public walking trail loop to be
finished and enjoyed.
